BRUSSELS — A 53-year-old man has been arrested for killing his wife and two children in the city of Liège on Tuesday night.
Jean-Claude Lajot is alleged to have attacked his family with a knife and a hammer in the Liège city district of Ans. A motive for the murders is not yet known.
Lajot fled the scene of the crime, but was arrested later on Tuesday night in Andenne, newspaper 'Het Nieuwsblad' reported on Wednesday.
The suspect lived in Ans with his new wife and three children. The woman and two children were killed after their throat was cut, while the third child fled to neighbours.
The third child was seriously injured and taken to hospital. He is said to be in a critical condition.
Lajot has been taken to Liège for questioning. The man is a repeat offender and some sources claim he was sentenced in the 1990s to 20 years jail for killing his mother.
