BRUSSELS — Federal police warned on Friday for long traffic jams and delays up until 3am on Saturday.

Extra long traffic jams are particularly expected on the E411 in the direction of Luxembourg and France.

France was celebrating its national holiday on Friday and no trucks were being allowed into the country until 10pm.

A ban was also in place in Luxembourg for heavy vehicles heavier than 7.5 ton.

Police in Luxembourg are systematically inspecting all trucks by pulling them over to the side of the road.

As a result, traffic jams are expected to be much longer than normal.

Motorists association Touring and VAB are also expecting heavy traffic to and from the Belgian coast for the first so-called changeover weekend.

Many holidaymakers will be returning home after two weeks off, while others will depart this weekend.

Traffic jams are also expected on south-bound roads and in France, Germany, Austria and Italy. Traffic delays are also expected on Saturday.
