BRUSSELS - Stefaan Boeve, the 28-year-old Belgian abducted in Iran on 12 August, is still being held by his captors. The local authorities continue negotiations with the kidnappers but without any success so far.

"We are in ongoing talks with the Iranian authorities who are in contact with the abductors," says François Delhaye of the federal ministry of foreign affairs.

"Over the last few days we have received positive signals, so we are hoping for a breakthrough this week." Foreign Affairs has no indications that the kidnappers have killed Boeve.

28-year-old Stefaan Boeve and 37-year-old Carla Van den Eeckhout were abducted in south-eastern Iran on 12 August. The woman was released the following day. Foreign Affairs says it has some idea of who is behind the kidnapping, but does not want to comment further.
