Tourist abducted in Iran released

14 September 2007, TEHRAN - Stefaan Boeve, the 28-year-old Belgian who was abducted in Iran on 12 August has been released. Iran's ministry of internal affairs has announced this. The news has been confirmed by the ministry of foreign affairs in Belgium.

TEHRAN - Stefaan Boeve, the 28-year-old Belgian who was abducted in Iran on 12 August has been released. Iran's ministry of internal affairs has announced this. The news has been confirmed by the ministry of foreign affairs in Belgium.

Stefaan Boeve, from the East Flanders town of Berlare, was abducted in south-eastern Iran together with his travelling companion, 37-year-old Carla Van den Eeckhout from Antwerp.

The woman was released the day following the kidnapping. Boeve was brought to Pakistan by his kidnappers, the Iranian authorities report.
