BRUSSELS – The public prosecution department in Brussels has opened an informative investigation into senior officials at the state security department suspected of slander and libel against Baron Benoît de Bonvoisin, De Morgen reports.

The investigation was at the initiative of procurator Bruno Bulthé and is primarily focused on Albert Raes, former chief of State Security. He and several close employees reportedly drew up a memo in the early 1980s describing the baron as a financier of the extreme right.

In the meantime, Comité I, the committee that monitors the intelligence service, is working on a report on possible embezzlement at the department of state security.
