BELGIUM - Ten Tibetans citizens have chained themselves to the entry gate of the Chinese embassy building in Brussels on Wednesday.

The activists’ protest is aimed against what they call the Chinese occupation of their country.

Brussels police came to inspect the site of the protest but eventually allowed the Tibetans to continue their demonstration. There have been no reports of violence so far.

Like many of their fellow compatriots living in exile, the protesters have seized the start of the Beijing Olympics at the end of this week to bring their country to the attention of the rest of the world. The protesters demand that Tibet should be made independent from mainland China.

Capital of Europe, and home to many international institutions, Brussels has been a regular host to actions of this kind.
