BRUSSELS — Almost a third of the Italian expats living in Belgium have voted in the Italian parliamentary elections.
The Italian embassy in Brussels said 61,643 of the 185,994 Italians living in Belgium voted in the elections.
The Italian expats were able to place their vote at five consulates: Brussels, Liège, Charleroi, Bergen and Genk.
They were able to vote from 22 March until 4pm on 6 April, newspaper 'Het Gazet van Antwerpen' reported on Friday.
The biggest voter turnout was in Brussels, where 43.7 percent of Italian residents voted.
The Italian embassy said the high percentage was due to the large number of Italian EU workers in Brussels.
In Liège the percentage was 34.97, followed by Bergen (31.64), Genk (30.97) and Charleroi (29.24).
The votes will be flown to Rome and added to the domestic-lodged votes on 10 April from 3pm.
Italy is staging national elections on 9 and 10 April.
