10 April 2006, BRUSSELS - The Belgian post office has been awarded a contract valued at EUR 18 million with the Publications Office of the European Union, it was announced on Monday. In effect, Belgian Post International will dispatch, as from 15 June 2007, all of the EU's publications that weigh more than 50g, such as the union's Official Journal. BRUSSELS - The Belgian post office has been awarded a contract valued at EUR 18 million with the Publications Office of the European Union, it was announced on Monday.
 
In effect, Belgian Post International will dispatch, as from 15 June 2007, all of the EU's publications that weigh more than 50g, such as the union's Official Journal.
 
The Post said the contract is based on an annual value of around EUR 9 million over two years, with one possible extension.
 
With 8 million units handled on annual basis, Belgian Post International has the highest volume of all postal flows generated by the EU in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.
 
"The Post is extremely satisfied with this contract, which constitutes an essential recognition of the quality and reliability of the Belgian mail service," a spokesperson said.
