BRUSSELS — Telenet sold its 100,000th digibox this week as it seeks a market penetration of 20 percent for digital television by the end of the year.
The Flemish telecoms firm has also started supplying the digicorder. When an automatic software download becomes available in spring, the digicorder's recording function will be activated.
"By 31 December 2005, Telenet had sold 83,500 digiboxes," company chief Duco Sickinghe said.
"If we maintain the current trend, we are well on the way to our target of almost 20 percent market penetration for digital television by the end of 2006."
The interest of Telenet digital subscribers for Prime and thematic channels has met company expectations, newspaper 'De Standaard' reported on Friday.
The video on request service is also popular among iDTV customers, with the availability of Flemish programmes playing an important role.
Meanwhile, Telenet also breached the ceiling of 1 million internet and telephone subscribers this week.
It now has 631,000 broadband internet subscribers, 14,000 free surfing subscribers and 369,000 telephone connections.
