BRUSSELS – A 17-year-old boy from Neufchâteau has lost his hand after causing an explosion in the kitchen of his parents' home. The boy was trying out a recipe for a firecracker which a friend had found on the internet.

He was using three products which are not dangerous on their own, but which can be when mixed. The explosion caused by the mixture caused the boy serious injury to both hands. One had to be amputated in the hospital in Liege. His mother also sustained slight injuries.
