BRUSSELS - It was a good weekend for Standard Liège, which won against Lokeren at home. The win brings to an end a string of three draws and takes Standard to within one point of leader Club Brugge.
Under rainy skies Standard coach Michel Preud'homme fielded a new line up.
Good soccer was hardly possible on the drenched Sclessin pitch. The only goal of the match came from Igor De Camargo.
Genk also managed to bag three points from its win against Charleroi, though the Limburgers did have a bit of a struggle on their hands. For Genk this was the first win in three matches.
Genk is now in fifth position, two places higher than Saturday's opponent Charleroi.
Haroun was the most dangerous player on the field in the opening stages.
Genk clearly deserved to score and Dahmane, with a little help from Soetaers, obliged.
For Charleroi Camus posed a threat during the second half, but was unable to turn this into goals.
After this the game deteriorated and the ref had to draw several yellow cards. At the bottom of the first division there was cheer for Brussels supporters.
The club thrashed newcomer Dender 4-1 at home. The heat was clearly on in the basement of the first division.
Brussels hadn't picked up any points from its last 5 matches and the pressure was starting to show.
Brussels fielded Cordier in goal as well as Zola Matumona.
Brussels missed a lot of chances in the first half.
Oumouri put the home team ahead with an own goal.
Haydock was second to score for Brussels quickly followed by Gorius and Bruno.
Munyaneza saved Dender from complete humiliation removing the club's duck from the scoreboard. There were wins for two further home teams on Saturday night.
Westerlo beat Sint-Truiden 2-0, while Zulte Waregem won 2-1 against Mouscron.
