BRUSSELS – The 14-year-old boy who was stabbed by two young men in Ghent last week is breathing on his own again and has opened his eyes a number of times. For days the boy fought for his life but on Sunday his aunt reported that the teenager is doing relatively well and is out of danger.

"He wakes up from time to time. He can breathe again on his own. His condition is no longer critical but he is still very fearful, you can see that when he's awake. He cannot yet talk."

After school last Tuesday the boy was stabbed in the throat by two fellow schoolmates. The two young perpetrators will appear before the juvenile court on Tuesday and Wednesday. The court will decide whether they will continue to be held in juvenile detention.
