"Slow food' started as an eco-gastronomical association in 1989. Its aims were to raise citizens' awareness of their alimentary choices amidst the mass introduction of fast food shops in Belgium.

The association promotes gastronomic pleasures and education to taste as well as biodiversity. It also aims at educating the general public about the ecological concequences of certain modes of alimentary production.

The three-day 'Slow food' congress will open on 23 March in Namur's Arsenal. Entrance will be free and numerous workshops organised by Namur's Hotelry school will be available for those under 35 years of age who register for the event. (www.etopia.be)
