10 February 2006, BRUSSELS — A host of ski slopes in the East Cantons opened on Friday and are expected to stay open for the entire weekend.

BRUSSELS — A host of ski slopes in the East Cantons opened on Friday and are expected to stay open for the entire weekend.

There is 10 to 25cm of snow cover, news agency Belga reported.

For cross-country skiers, the following pistes are open:

Eupen (Haus Ternell), Baraque de Fraiture, Signal de Botrange, Centre Nature de Botrange, Malmédy (Mont-Spinette), Faymonville (Plaine Blanche), Weywertz (Zum Himmelchen), Bütgenbach (Worriken), Elsenborn (Herzebösch), Rocherath (Kornhof, Eifel-ski-zentrum), Wirtzfeld (Zum Holzwarchetal), Gouvy, Losheimergraben & Hockai (Hôtel Bellevue, Linaigrettes and Hôtel Beau Site).

For alpine skiers, only the pistes of Ovifat and Baraque de Fraiture have been opened.
