FLANDERS -- A branch of Michelin-starred restaurant De Pastorale is set to open in Hong Kong in April 2009.
Owned by Bart De Pooter and Marie-Clair Braem, the two-star restaurant is among the finest in Flanders.
De Pastorale gained its first Michelin star in 2003 and a second in 2007.
De Poorter told the Antwerp daily Gazet van Antwerpen it was a head-hunting bureau that gave him the idea of opening a second De Pastorale in Hong Kong.
The head-hunters were acting on behalf of a company that was interested in opening a second Pastorale in the bustling heart of Kowloon.
New restaurant to have Chinese and Belgian chefs
A contingent of Chinese chefs is currently being trained in Reet. A number of members of the current Pastorale team will join them in Hong Kong once the new restaurant opens in 2009.
Chef Bart De Pooter says that he will most likely divide his time between the two restaurants: "I will spend enough time in Asia to enable me to guarantee the same level of quality there as here."
“The challenge of opening a second Pastorale is giving us extra motivation," says Pooter.
