BRUSSELS - Chips are expected to feature at the top of a new list of banned foods in Belgian schools.

A study group launched by Wallonian Education Minister Marie Arena and Children's Minister Catherine Fonck will draw up a list of products that may not be sold in primary or secondary schools, it was reported on Wednesday.

In Brussels, 110 French-speaking schools have already outlawed chips in their canteens.

The French community has not ruled out making this ban compulsory in all the region's official schools.

The aim is to decide on a label of products that can be sold in schools.

Chips, chocolate and sodas are unlikely to be included.

Permission would only be given for 50 products in total to be made available.
