BRUSSELS — SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express have announced plans to merge and start joint operations under a new name.
The two airlines are already subsidiaries of the holding company SN Air Holding, adjusting their flight routes to match each other in 2005.
However, SN and Virgin management have now agreed to completely merge the two airlines this year, news service VRT reported.
The new airline will focus on low-cost passengers as well as passengers who are prepared to pay more for a higher degree of service.
Personnel were to be informed of the merger on Friday morning and a press conference will be held later on Friday.
SN Brussels emerged out of the ashes of bankrupt Belgian airline Sabena. It has been under common ownership with Virgin since May 2005.
