BELGIUM - Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov has donated EUR 1 million to the non-profit organisation Pinocchio at the burns unit of Neder-Over-Heembeek.
The non-profit organisation Pinocchio helps children suffering from burns and aims to make people aware of the unique issues that burn patients may face.
Kerimov was a patient at the burns unit in Neder-Over-Heembeek when he learned about the work of Pinocchio.
Pinocchio’s representative, Martin Margodt, said: "EUR 1 million is an enormously generous gift."
The organisation has an annual budget of EUR 250,000 to EUR 300,000.
"This donation will make our work much easier, but it doesn't mean we will suddenly play Santa Claus. Working with burn patients costs a lot of money," explained Margodt.
Russian billionaire Kerimov was treated at the burns unit of Neder-Over-Heembeek for months after he was injured in car accident in France.
