BRUSSELS – According to an estimate from the defence department the repatriation of Belgian pilot Jacques Wilmart from Chad cost taxpayers almost EUR 37,500. Another EUR 5,000 will be paid by the Foreign Affairs ministry.

The case has caused commotion in the French language media. Wilmart has prohibited the newspapers of the Sudpresse group from publishing an interview with him on Thursday because his son has sold an exclusive interview to weekly Paris-Match. He wants to use the money from the interview to help the members of Ark van Zoë still being held in Chad on charges of child trafficking.
