BRUSSELS – The maximum price for diesel will tomorrow rise by EUR 0,28  to EUR 1.158 per litre. This equals the previous record set in September 2005.

In the past few days the price of a barrel of oil has been on the rise. One of the reasons for this is the heightening political tension around a possible Turkish military incursion into Iraq.

"The market is at present being driven by problems in Iraq and Turkey, but especially by speculation", says Nicolas Storme of the Belgian Petroleumunie (Union of Petroleum Companies).

Prices are also rising due to the approaching winter which means an increase in demand. How the price develops in the coming months will in part depend on how cold it gets and on economic growth.
