GHENT – Postal workers in Ghent will be going back to work on Thursday. They will be keeping a close eye on whether management at De Post is following through on its promises however.

The unions say that the agreements that have been now put to paper offer sufficient guarantees.

"Only when we actually start work will we be able to see whether De Post can follow through on the commitments it has made," said spokesperson for ACV-Transcom Lieve Vanoverbeke. She stressed that consistency in sticking to the agreements was essential.

The ACV says about a quarter of postal workers resumed work this morning. "We are asking everyone to put an end to the strike tomorrow." This was confirmed this morning during a meeting with De Post management.

The drivers in Ghent 1, the central postal district in the city, resumed work this morning after 12 days on strike. The drivers were accompanied, as promised, by ‘experts' from De Post. They drove together with postal workers to observe the problems with the routes generated by a new computer programme.
