ANTWERP – The police confiscated almost 11,000 kg of cannabis found hidden in the walls of vats containing olives, the Liege police reported on Thursday.

The cannabis from Morocco was discovered when the shipment arrived in the port of Antwerp. The police followed the smugglers as they took the vats to warehouses in the Liege region.

Police arrested a 41-year-old business owner whose company was serving as a cover for the smuggling operation.

The 11 tonnes of cannabis would be about 1 percent of the total estimated production of the substance in Morocco. Police say the shipment would have a market value of about EUR 50 million.
