BRUSSELS — Belgian police arrested 16 suspects on Wednesday after raiding 20 homes across the country in a large-scale operation against child pornography.

The 16 suspects are accused of having downloaded child pornography to their computers.

Nine of the suspects have confessed or were found to be in possession of illegal material.

Federal police said inquiries are still being conducted into the actions of the seven other suspects, news agency Belga reported.

Police seized six computers and about 1,000 DVDs, CDs and videos for further investigation.

The house raids were part of a worldwide operation against a network that allegedly spread child pornography via the internet.

In total, police raided 150 homes in 12 countries.
