BRUSSELS - The Socialist Party (SP) wants to introduce bilingual education in Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels, Le Soir has reported.

The schools would be managed by both communities.

"In this time of globalisation and at a moment when the very existence of our country hangs in the balance, we must have the courage to take action," said PS chairman Elio Di Rupo. "Today both communities organise their own education. We have to give schools the opportunity to offer education in both languages in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels," he said.

Students and teachers of these schools must be able to come from both sides of the language border. The lessons should be taught in both Dutch and French. Di Rupo wants to focus the plan primarily on primary and secondary schools along the language border.
