BRUSSELS - A nurse at the "Le Clos de la quiétude" nursing home in Evere has been accused of poisoning elderly people. The woman, who usually worked on night shift, has admitted giving various elderly residents sleeping aids to help them fall asleep so that she would have a quiet night at work.

The investigation is in the hands of the Brussels court. It is investigating the "suspicious" deaths of seven elderly residents, all of whom were in the care of the nurse in question.

The staff of the nursing home has been questioned. One carer who assisted the nurse could not be reached. She has left for Canada. Authorities are considering sending a committee to question the woman.
