BRUSSELS - The Alliance of Flemish Christian democrats and nationalists on Friday responded to King Albert's insistence that a new government be formed quickly and that a Committee of Wise Men should prepare state reforms.

The alliance, the largest political group in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, stressed that it was only prepared to discuss the formation of a new government if it received guarantees that state reforms will go ahead. Bart De Wever, the leader of the Flemish nationalist N-VA, confirmed his belief in a centre-right coalition.

Mr De Wever has trouble understanding the position of the Francophones.

He told the VRT that there wasn't a single region in the world that rejected funding for extra powers.

He compared the Francophones to a 30 year-old child that still lives with its mother and refuses to move into a fully paid flat of its own.
