No Belgians left in Queen Elizabeth Competition
The two Belgians that were left in this year's Queen Elizabeth Competition, were both ousted in the semi-finals.
Stephanie Proot and Yannick Van de Velde (photo) were not among the 12 finalists that were announced last night (photo below). This year's edition centres on piano.
Yannick Van de Velde had to play on Monday as he had drawn number 1 for the recital, and said that this was a disadvantage. "You will notice that none of the musicians that had to perform on Monday, managed to get through to the final. This doesn't surprise me", he told reporters. "We all played better on Thursday. You know, a good night's sleep can really change things."
However, he was already looking to the future. At 23 years of age, he was one of the youngest candidates in this edition. "I've been staying in Berlin for a while now and I feel I'm really making progress. I'll come back in 3 years' time as a more mature artist."
Stephanie Proost was a bit disappointed. "I really felt I was in with a big chance of making it to the final. I hope this can be a steppingstone. People know me now, they know my music and what I stand for."
