BRUSSELS — Michel Nihoul was released from the Saint-Gilles jail at about 10am on Friday.
Nihoul had been sentenced to a five-year jail term in legal proceedings around child killer Marc Dutroux in 2004.
He left the jail via a side door. He was wearing a suit and stepped into an awaiting car. He made no statements to the media.
The commission for probationary release approved the convicted businessman's parole on 18 April.
Aarlen Court sentenced Nihoul to five years jail on 22 June 2004 for drugs crimes, dealing in stolen cars, document forgery and human smuggling.
But he was acquitted of all charges relating to the abuse and murder of children.
