BRUSSELS – Belgium's biggest brewing firm got a new name on Friday after formally merging with a Brazilian partner.

Interbrew, which is not only the biggest brewer in Belgium but also claims to be the world's leading beer maker, will from now on be known as Inbev.

An extraordinary General Assembly of the company's key shareholders took the decision to change the firm's name to mark Interbrew's merger with Brazilian beer maker Ambev.

The general assembly also voted to issue 141.7 million new shares in Inbev.
