BRUSSELS — Nude photos have been found on the supposedly secure youth chat site place.to.be which is promoted by the federal government.
The discovery was made by the IT co-ordinator for the Wallonian municipality Seneffe, news agency Belga reported on Friday.
The Federal Computerisation Ministry said the photos were immediately removed.
Youths aged 12-15 can gain access to the website with an electronic ID card and the chat site is promoted by the federal government as a safe online meeting place for youth.
Municipalities that supply the ID cards to youth also advise them how they can obtain a free card-reader. The card-reader allows youths to log in to the website, which is snot accessible to youths.
The discovery of the naked photos has sparked alarm among public authorities.
The Seneffe IT co-ordinator stressed it is worrying that the federal government also has to guard the content of websites that it promotes in its campaign of safe internet use.
