BRUSSELS — An estimated 100 Muslims staged a demonstration in the EU district in Brussels on Tuesday in protest against the Danish cartoons of Mohammed.
The protestors read a letter aloud in which they condemned "the blasphemy and the humiliation" disseminated by the cartoons published by European media.
A different letter was presented to the Danish embassy, Flemish broadcaster VRT reported.
In that letter, the protestors demanded legislation defending religions and ensuring religious respect.
The protest — which involved representatives of diverse Islamic religious associations — passed off without incident.
Tuesday's protest is the latest such demonstration in Belgium. Peaceful protests were held in Brussels on Saturday and Friday.
However, violence committed by Islamic youth marred an otherwise peaceful protest in Antwerp on Saturday.
