Motorway slip road closes for a year
A viaduct has to be upgraded so as to accommodate a new rail link from Antwerp to Zaventem.6 May 2008
BRUSSELS - The slip road that links the E19 Antwerp to Brussels motorway with the Brussels orbital motorway has been closed to allow work to commence on improvements to a viaduct.
The viaduct needs upgrading to accommodate a new rail link from Antwerp to Zaventem Airport.
Traffic heading for the capital is being diverted via a temporary slip road.
The Flemish Transport Department does not expect any additional traffic problems to be caused as a result of the diversion.
The work on the viaduct is expected to last about a year.
The rail link from Antwerp to Zaventem will come into service in 2012. Much of the new rail link is being built on the central reservation of the E19 motorway.
