BRUSSELS – More and more parents are choosing to home school their children. In the 2005-2006 school year 580 Flemish children – out of a total of 1 million children of school-going age – were schooled at home.

The number of students that follow secondary education at home has been increasing steadily: in six years' time the number has more than tripled. Last school year 360 young people were registered as home schooled. That number was 311 during the 2004-2005 school year, and just 255 in the preceding year.

The number of children following primary education at home is also rising. 220 children were registered as being home schooled at the primary level for the 2005-2006 school year.
