BRUSSELS – The Flemish labour market is thriving, according to figures from the Flemish department for labour conditions (VDAB), De Tijd reported today.

A total of 524,503 job openings were received by the various databases of the VDAB between January and April 2007. There is some overlap among the databases, but the trend is clear. In the same period last year only 358,599 new job openings were registered. This comes down to an increase of 46.3 percent from the same period last year.

The official unemployment rate in Flanders has fallen to just over 6 percent.
