BRUSSELS – Women in Belgium are more likely to wear a seatbelt than men, it emerged on Friday.

Figures released by the Belgian Institute of Road Safety showed that 67 percent of women drivers and front-seat passengers put their seatbelt on compared to 57.3 percent of men.

However, the figures for both men and women are a disappointment to road safety campaigners, showing 38 percent are still ignoring the law and safety messages.

The law obliging Belgians to wear a seatbelt was introduced 30 years ago this year.
