BRUSSELS — The bodies of a man and woman were found in the Willem Tellstraat in Blankenberge on Tuesday.
The public prosecution office said the woman was strangled to death by the man, who later committed suicide with a knife.
The bodies are believed to have been in the house for a couple of days.
The couple — who did not have children — were aged in their 50s.
The man worked for the technical services department of the Blankenberge municipality. Blankenberge is on the Belgian coast.
Justice authorities are examining the crime scene and are questioning neighbours for possible clues to the murder-suicide.
The family tragedy comes after a man himself, his estranged wife and their three children in the Flemish town of Temse recently
The man lit two charcoal barbeques in a bedroom of the family home and autopsy tests indicated all five died from CO poisoning.
