20 June 2005, BRUSSELS — A barbecue ended in tragedy on Sunday in the East Flanders town of Eke when a 38-year-old man was stabbed in the throat and killed.

BRUSSELS — A barbecue ended in tragedy on Sunday in the East Flanders town of Eke when a 38-year-old man was stabbed in the throat and killed.

The alleged attacker, the victim's 41-year-old neighbour, fled the scene and tried to hang himself, but was overpowered and later arrested.

It is believed the victim, his attacker and their partners spent the day together before having a barbecue on Sunday night.

When the victim and his wife tried to leave, an argument ensued. The victim was stabbed and died at the scene.

The killer than fled to his garden shed and tried to hang himself, but was held back by family. Police later arrested the man.

Meanwhile, two male youths have been arrested for the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Ciney. One of the suspects is over the age of 18. Both have been remanded in custody.
