BRUSSELS — Special forces federal police officers raided an apartment in Dilbeek shortly after 4pm on Monday where a suspected attempted kidnapping took place.
However, no one was in the apartment when police entered the building, located on the Ninoofsesteenweg, newspaper 'De Standaard' reported.
Police are convinced, however, that an armed person forced entry to the apartment on Monday afternoon.
A woman jumped from the balcony at about 1pm and called out in French for help. She told passersby that a man with a revolver had entered the apartment.
The woman has since vanished without trace and police are searching for her with the help of tracker dogs.
Police suspect that the man also escaped from the apartment shortly before police arrived.
Forensics police officers are examining the woman's apartment for possible traces of the suspect.
Traffic was shut off around the vicinity of the building as the drama developed.
However, when it became clear no one was in the apartment, police re-opened the Ninoofsesteenweg and exit 13 of the Brussels ring road.
