BRUSSELS - Leopold Storme, the 19-year-old suspected of killing his parents and sister last weekend, has apparently told the investigating magistrate that he was at the crime scene when the triple murder was committed. The Brussels public prosecution department disclosed this on Friday afternoon. The young man still denies that he murdered his sister and parents.

"The young man has admitted he was at the crime scene on Saturday night," said prosecution department spokesperson Estelle Arpigny. "He says he witnessed some of the incident. He says he too was attacked and tried to defend himself, hence the cuts on his hands. He has no explanation for who the perpetrator or perpetrators are, or why he did not call the emergency services."

The prosecution department says Storme's account of events on Saturday is still riddled with inconsistencies. "He not only contradicts himself, " the spokesperson continues, "but his statements are also refuted on a number of points by the results of the investigation. A number of elements in the investigation continue to point to him as a suspect."

The spokesperson could not comment on Leopold Storme's possible drug use on the day of the crime since test results are not yet available. Nor does the public prosecution department yet have the final results of the autopsies.
