BRUSSELS – In the near future, Belgians will no longer have to fill in his or her own tax return, but will receive a so-called tax proposal from the revenue service. This form has already been filled in and has a payment transfer form attached. A proposal was presented during the coalition talks.

The introduction date has not yet been determined but the intention is to get it started as soon as possible, perhaps even for the coming fiscal year. In principle, this does not need to take long as it will only apply to the retired and those on regular salaries. The tax authorities sometimes know more about the fiscal details of these groups than they themselves.

The measure is outlined in the chapter "the customer-friendly state" from the coalition agreement currently being negotiated.
