BELGIUM - Following the coming into of its Constitution, Kosovo, the youngest European state, is soon to open its first 9 embassies abroad. Brussels is one of the countries to host an embassy.

The new Kosovar Constitution came into force on Sunday. It was Kosovar president Fatmir Sejdiu that signed the decree that permits the new state to open its first embassies abroad.

The cities that are to receive a Kosovar embassy are Washington, Berlin, Vienna, Tirana, London, Paris, Rome, Bern and Brussels.

Kosovo declared its independence in February of this year. So far, the new state has been recognised by some 40 countries, including the United States and most of the members of the European Union.

The 9 countries that are to welcome a Kosovar embassy already have a diplomatic mission in the Kosovar capital Pristina.
