BELGIUM - Garode Ratazi, the seven-month old baby boy that was abducted from a Charleroi hospital on Friday has been recovered in the nearby town of Jumet.

The infant is believed to have been abducted by a woman who had recently lost her own child.

“The police found the baby just after midnight and it is in good health. The only thing I can add is that the infant was found in the company of a woman,” Dirk Depover, spokesman for the missing children’s organisation Child Focus said.

The 31-year old woman that abducted the child is said to have been suffering from psychological problems after she’d lost her own baby a few days ago. CCTV camera images showed how she entered Charleroi’s Notre Dame et Reine Fabiola hospital, left the premises with a small child and took off in a car.

Following the abduction, the woman is believed to have returned home and told her partner that the baby was hers.

There have been no further statements on the suspect’s identity or the circumstances that led to the recovery. The suspect has been taken in for questioning by the Charleroi police.
