BRUSSELS — Police evacuated the Justice Palace in Brussels at about 11.30am on Friday after a suspicious package was found.
The package was found on the Poelaertplein — not far from the Justice Palace — at about 10am.
The bomb disposal squad conducted a controlled detonation of the package at about 11.40am.
The package was found close to the court chambers where the trial of suspected GICM terrorists is being held.
However, after closer examination it was discovered that the package merely contained blankets.
Justice authorities nevertheless adjourned the terrorism trial until Monday, news agency Belga reported.
Some 13 suspects are on trial for alleged involvement in the Casablanca and Madrid bombings in May 2003 and March 2004 respectively.
They were arrested in the first half of 2004.
