"It hasn't been so windy since 1963"
Weather conditions in Belgium last month were pretty typical for June.
The fresh wind will ensure that June 2013, if remembered at all, will go down in history as a cool month.
Average temperature stood at 15.8°C just under the 30 year mean of 16.2°.
Hot conditions between 11 and 20 June ensured that last June's average made good much of the ground lost in the rest of the month.
In June 2013 the wind usually blew from north-north-west instead of the more customary south-west. This caused the temperature feel to plummet.
The average wind speed was 3.6 metres per second. VRT weatherman Frank Deboosere says that is pretty exceptional: "It hasn't been so windy since 1963."
Apart from the wind June 2013 showed little character. It rained on 12 days instead of the average 15. Rainfall totalled 55.3mm instead of the average 71.8mm. The sun shone less than usual too: 173 hours instead of 188.
