BRUSSELS – Forty percent of all Belgian companies are guilty of using illegal labour, according to figures released by the Social Law Inspection Service.

The Inspection Service, which checks 15,000 companies annually, says the figures, although shocking, are no different from those of the five previous years.

Four out of ten companies are employing persons who are either not registered, who work full time while registered as part time, or are illegal immigrants working without work or residence permits.

The Inspection Service now wants to concentrate on high-risk sectors such as construction and catering, and has called for better co-operation between the various inspection services and additional personnel to combat social fraud.
