BRUSSELS — Meteorological bureau RMI has forecast a heatwave for next week, making it the summer's second swelter.
The RMI forecast the heatwave will take place from Sunday 2 July until Wednesday 5 July.
A heatwave is defined as five days above 25 degrees Celsius, with at least three of those days reaching 30 degrees.
The RMI said the heatwave might also occur in combination with high concentrations of ozone in the air.
While the sun offers a chance for beach weather, outdoor swimming and backyard BBQs, the RMI has also issued the public a warning.
It warned the public against exposing too much bare skin to the sun during hot weather, to use sun cream and to drink sufficient water.
The public was also urged to advise the OCMW social welfare office if social workers should pay a visit to single people possibly at threat from the warm weather.
Authorities are particularly cautious following the high number of deaths recorded in the summer of 2003.
Next week's heatwave follows the last run of warm weather in Belgium recorded 9-13 June.
