Hacker finds way into Dexia and ING websites

Ease of security breaches on internet sites are brought into question by the latest information hack.

The Flemish media announced on Sunday that the internet sites of the two banks, ING and Dexia, had been invaded by a foreign hacker. Bank clients were not affected by the hack, account details and file data remained unharmed.
The man behind the hack seemed only to want to raise awareness about the lack of security on internet sites.

The ING hack occurred on Friday last week, when the hacker gained access to the ING Gift page. However, an ING spokesperson stressed that the site had no link to client account details. The site remains closed while ING make an official complaint.

Dexia had a visit from the same hacker, who managed to break into a site containing information on share prices in the stock exchange. However, this site did not contain any client bank account details.
