23 April 2007, BRUSSELS – Most of the French citizens living in Belgium who took part in the French presidential election on Sunday voted for UMP candidate Nicolas Sarkozy. He received 35.8 percent of the vote, according to the French consulate in Brussels.

BRUSSELS – Most of the French citizens living in Belgium who took part in the French presidential election on Sunday voted for UMP candidate Nicolas Sarkozy. He received 35.8 percent of the vote, according to the French consulate in Brussels.

Of the 48,875 French nationals in Belgium who registered for the first round of voting only 23,384 actually cast a vote. This put the French voter turnout in Belgium at 47.84 percent, compared to extremely high turnout in France itself of about 85 percent.
