BRUSSELS – From Thursday through Saturday residents of the province of Antwerp will be able to have their "heart health" checked free of charge. The campaign is part of "Becel's National Heart Survey" and is in cooperation with the Belgian Cardiology League. The campaign will be taking place in 14 large cities in addition to Antwerp.

"Heart ambassador" Sabine Appelmans will be at the Groenplaats in Antwerp from 11 a.m. on Thursday to put the campaign in motion.

Every three minutes someone is admitted to hospital with heart problems in Belgium. And yet 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with relatively simple steps: healthier eating habits and a healthier lifestyle.

People will also be able to test their cholesterol, body mass index, glycemic index and blood pressure free of charge during the campaign. The tests will be available from 10 a.m. on Thursday 8 and 9 March at the Groenplaats in Antwerp. On Saturday 10 March those interested can have the tests done at the Carrefour in Schoten.
