Four Belgians killed in Moroccan plane crash

Four Belgians have died after the light aircraft they were travelling in crashed. It is reported that three of the victims are male and the fourth female.

The plane took off from the international airport Marrakesh-Menara at 10:10 local time on Friday morning. The four people on the plane were flying to the desert city of Ouarzazate. The victims are reportedly the pilot, co-pilot and a couple.

The crash took place in a mountainous region on the way to Ouarzazate, near the rural town of Zerktane, according to the Moroccan press agency MAP. High winds were reported in the area where the plane crashed.

The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows the identity of the victims. The four are reportedly Belgian nationals - all four French-speaking. Spokesman for Foreign Affairs, Bart Ouvry, is declining to give details on the identity of the victims. The next of kin have been informed. According to Ouvry the exact reason for the crash is not yet known.
